George Santos to Recuse Himself From Committee Assignments
Beleaguered freshman New York Congressman George Santos told GOP colleagues in a closed meeting on Tuesday that he will recuse himself from sitting on committees.
“The congressman is reserving his seats on his assigned committees until he has been properly cleared of both campaign and personal financial investigations,” According to Naysa Woolmer, his spokesperson, Naysa Woomer CNBC.
Santos stated to his party during the meeting: “he’s not accepting the committee assignments until things get cleared up,” One GOP lawmaker was present in the room and said that he did so on the basis anonymity.
It is unknown if Santos took the decision to revoke his assignments to committees on his own or was directed by someone else. Kevin McCarthy, House Majority Leader A private meeting was held On Monday, however, it was not clear what the two discussed. CNBC did not reach out to McCarthy spokespersons.
Prosecutors are looking into Santos’ personal campaign finance, and lies about his family.
