George Soros Responds to ‘Soros-Funded DA’ Label Stuck to Alvin Bragg

Billionaire financier George Soros has responded to the “Soros-funded DA” label often applied to Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg by his critics by saying he neither knows Bragg nor contributed to his election campaign. Soros has contributed significantly to the Color of Change PAC, which endorsed Bragg in his campaign for Manhattan district attorney in 2021 and pledged more than $1 million on an independent expenditure campaign to support Bragg. However, Soros spokesperson Michael Vachon recently insisted that none of those funds were earmarked for Bragg’s campaign and that “there has been no contact between the two.” Soros also remarked on an op-ed he’d written explaining why he’s donated to “reform-minded prosecutors” and why he has “no intention of stopping.”

The label was often applied to Bragg, even though rumors swirled that he was preparing to make a move on former President Donald Trump. The former president’s son, Don Trump Jr., criticized Bragg over his pursuit of criminal charges against his dad, describing it as politically motivated and likening it to communist-level nonsense. Florida governor Ron DeSantis also accused Bragg of playing politics and “weaponizing” the DA’s office, saying that Soros-funded prosecutors are imposing a political agenda on society at the expense of the rule of law and public safety.

Soros, who is Jewish, is known to back progressive political causes, but his investments in political activism have also attracted criticism that relies on “longstanding antisemitic myths, particularly the notion that rich and powerful Jews work behind the scenes, plotting to control countries and manipulate global events.”
