Georgia judge schedules hearing for Trump’s motion to disqualify DA Fani Willis.

A⁢ Hearing Date Set to Consider Trump’s Motion to Disqualify Fulton County District Attorney

A senior judge in Georgia has scheduled a hearing⁢ date ⁣to discuss former President Donald Trump’s motion to disqualify Fulton County District Attorney Fani ⁤Willis. This ‍comes ahead of expected‍ indictments related to election interference.

Senior ‌Judge Stephen ⁤Schuster,⁤ formerly of Cobb County, has ⁣signed an order issuing a hearing date of Aug. 10. ‍All sides involved‍ in the case are required to file legal‌ briefs before Aug.‌ 8.

Trump’s New Motion Against Willis

Trump recently filed a new motion ‌against‌ Willis, challenging her efforts to investigate potential 2020 election interference. His lawyers argue that Willis, as a political candidate, presents a⁣ conflict of interest ‌and should be disqualified from the case.

The filing states, “She has personally inserted ⁤herself into‍ Twitter campaigns‍ requesting donations and followers while referencing her prosecution of this case.” Trump’s ⁢attorneys claim that⁢ Willis is using the‍ case to⁤ fundraise for her reelection campaign.

Willis has previously hinted at ‍the possibility of⁣ bringing charges ‌against individuals who ‌questioned Georgia’s 2020 election results. A letter obtained by the‌ New ⁢York⁤ Times suggests that any charges related to the Trump investigation may be‌ announced between ⁣July 31 and Aug. 18.

Background on the Investigation

In February⁣ 2021, ⁤Willis launched a criminal ⁢investigation into‌ Trump. A special grand jury was selected in May 2022, which recommended‌ multiple legal actions and at least a dozen indictments. Contrary to Trump’s claims, the grand jury’s partially released report concluded⁣ that there was ‍no widespread voter fraud.

Fulton County ⁤prosecutors have requested a delay in the release of the full special grand jury report. In response, Trump’s motion requests that any evidence obtained from the ‌report ‍not be used‍ in future civil⁤ or criminal proceedings.
