Georgia prosecutor prepared to proceed with Trump case.
Georgia’s Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is “Ready to Go” in Trump Investigation
After more than two years of investigation, Georgia’s Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and her team are finally prepared to take action against former President Donald Trump and his allies for their alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
The prosecutor told local NBC affiliate WXIA over the weekend that she will stay true to her stated commitment and make significant decisions during the Fulton County Superior Court’s fourth term of court, which runs from July 11 to September 1.
“The work is accomplished,” Willis said confidently. “We’ve been working for two and a half years. We’re ready to go.”
“The work is accomplished. We’ve been working for 2.5 years. We’re ready to go.”

If Trump is Charged, It Will Be His Third Indictment This Year
If Trump faces charges in Georgia, it will mark the third indictment against him in 2023. Despite being the GOP front-runner in the 2024 race, Trump vehemently denies any wrongdoing and asserts that politically motivated forces are targeting him across multiple investigations.
“The Radical Left Democrat Thugs shouldn’t be allowed to investigate me during, and in the middle of, my campaign for President,” Trump expressed on Truth Social. “Why didn’t they file these ridiculous charges 2.5 years ago? They waited because they wanted to illegally and negatively influence the 2024 Presidential Election, arguably the most important Election in the history of the USA[?]”
Investigation Background and Current Developments
Willis, a Democrat, initiated her investigation after a phone call recording emerged in which Trump urged a top Georgia state official to “find” 11,780 votes, enough to overturn his loss to now-President Joe Biden, citing widespread voter fraud. One area of interest for the district attorney seems to be the group of “alternate” pro-Trump electors, some of whom have been identified as criminal targets and court documents reveal that at least half of them have been granted immunity.
Various attempts by Trump and one alternate elector to halt the investigation in court have been consistently rejected. Most recently, a judge denied their request to disqualify Willis, halt further prosecution, and suppress a largely-redacted special grand jury report that provides charging recommendations.
In April, Willis wrote to Fulton County Sheriff Patrick Labat, stating that she anticipated announcing charging decisions in the Trump case by the end of the summer. She emphasized the need for heightened security and preparedness, as intelligence suggested that the announcement could provoke a significant public reaction.
During her recent remarks, Willis acknowledged that “some people may not be happy with the decisions that I’m making” and cautioned that dissatisfied individuals might “act in a way that could create harm.” However, she expressed confidence in the county sheriff’s proactive safety measures, stating, “I’m not willing to put any of the employees or the constituents that come to the courthouse in harm’s way.”
