Teenage ⁢Boys Face New Charges After‍ Dramatic ‍Escape

Two teenage boys who escaped from police ⁣while being‌ transported to a court⁤ case now face new charges after they allegedly stole an officer’s pistol, hit ‌him with it, and fired several rounds ⁣at him.

The 14-year-old⁢ and 15-year-old boys have ​both been charged with⁤ two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer ⁣with a firearm, according to the Georgia Bureau ‌of ‍Investigation. They have been charged as adults.

Escape‌ and Dramatic Altercation

The teenagers reportedly escaped from police​ on Thursday while en route to the Regional‍ Youth Detention ⁢Center in Augusta. ⁣According to officials, the boys managed to attack the deputy transporting‍ them, stealing his .45-caliber‌ handgun, firing three rounds in his direction, and ‌escaping into the woods.

The officer was reportedly ⁤knocked unconscious during the attack⁢ but is now “safely recovering,” per Sheriff Alfonzo Williams of the Burke County Sheriff’s Office. The boys were eventually ​found in a storage container.

The suspects were originally being held on burglary and firearms ​charges, ⁢according ⁣to⁤ WRDW.
