Georgia’s Republican Gov Declares State of Emergency Over Antifa Riots
Brian Kemp (R.), Georgia governor, declared a State of Emergency Thursday. This activated 1,000 National Guard soldiers to combat violent protests in Atlanta.

“Masked activists threw rocks, launched fireworks, and burned a police vehicle in front of the Atlanta Police Foundation office building,” According to the declaration. “Georgians respect peaceful protests, but do not tolerate acts of violence against persons or property.”

Atlanta officials say they are also monitoring an incident in Memphis, where five ex-police officers were charged with second degree murder in the shooting death a civilian during a traffic stop. Atlanta officials are concerned that the incident will trigger more riots.
“We are closely monitoring the events in Memphis and are prepared to support peaceful protests in our city,” Atlanta police issued a statement. “We ask that demonstrations be safe and peaceful.”
