Florida Governor’s Mansion crushed by falling giant oak tree, DeSantis family trapped.
A 100-Year-Old Oak Tree Falls on Florida Governor’s Mansion with DeSantis Family Inside
A stunning incident occurred at the Florida Governor’s Mansion in Tallahassee when a massive 100-year-old oak tree came crashing down. The tree, which appeared to be split in half, fell while Governor Ron DeSantis’ family was inside the mansion.
“100-year-old oak tree falls on the Governor’s Mansion in Tallahassee — Mason, Madison, Mamie and I were home at the time, but thankfully no one was injured. Our prayers are with everyone impacted by the storm.”

Casey DeSantis, the governor’s wife, shared a picture of the fallen tree on her X account, expressing gratitude that no one was hurt during the incident.
The tree’s fall was a result of Hurricane Idalia, a powerful Category 3 storm that made landfall on Wednesday morning. It caused widespread destruction and continues to wreak havoc across Florida.
“Utility linemen are currently working to bring back power across the state following Hurricane #Idalia. They have already restored power to more than 260,000 households that lost power due to the storm.”
– Ron DeSantis (@GovRonDeSantis) August 30, 2023
Utility linemen are tirelessly working to restore power to the affected areas, with over 260,000 households already regaining electricity.
Tallahassee, located approximately 90 miles from Keaton Beach, was not in the evacuation zones that affected 28 counties. This allowed Governor DeSantis to continue making television appearances from the area, providing guidance to Florida residents.
Despite their relatively safe location, the Governor’s Mansion was not spared from the storm’s impact. The fallen oak tree serves as a stark reminder of the damage caused by Hurricane Idalia.
The Governor’s Mansion has a rich history, with the original structure being built in 1907. However, due to structural issues, it was rebuilt in 1956 by Palm Beach architect Marion Sims Wyeth. Since then, it has served as a residence for Florida’s First Families and a venue for state business and events.
While Governor DeSantis was not present during the incident, he has been informed about the damage to his current home. The governor’s family, fortunately, did not need to evacuate and remains safe.
