Gifts from world’s most notorious surface at new auction
Gifts from the modern world’s most evil killer and America’s No. 1 gangland boss are heading to public auction this week.
Just unveiled for Secrets, the headline-grabbing auctioneer of Americana and special global artifacts, Alexander Historical Auctions, said that on Friday, it is offering for sale a vest pocket handgun Chicago crime boss Al Capone gifted to his favorite Cubs baseball player, “Kiki” Cuyler.
The Colt Model 1908 Hammerless .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol was given to Cuyler by Capone in 1929. The darkened silver receiver and slide are heavily engraved with ornate scrollwork, including a dedication, “To Kiki My Favorite Cub.”
It also includes “Alphonse Capone,” “1929,” and the logo of the Cubs, which lost the World Series to the Philadelphia Athletics that year.
The gun presented to the Hall of Famer is expected to fetch as much as $50,000, the auction house based in Maryland said.
The three-day online auction also includes an art deco mechanical pencil gifted by Adolf Hitler to the father of his young bride, Eva Braun.
“A simply incredible Adolf Hitler personal relic, a four-color gold presentation mechanical pencil gifted by Hitler to the father of his lover, Eva Braun, on the man’s birthday in 1944. The beautifully crafted pen has an octagonal barrel decorated with very fine striations running the length of the pen, with many unworked circles throughout providing a very nice Art Deco appearance,” Alexander’s description of the pen being offered on Thursday said.
According to Braun’s sister, Hitler gave the pencil to her father, Herrn Fritz Braun, on his 65th birthday in 1944. Ilse Braun said in a letter that accompanies the trinket, “The pencil was a birthday present to my father from Adolf Hitler, and was given to him, at the request of the Fuehrer, by my sister, Frau Eva Hitler.”
It is expected to sell for between $12,000 and $15,000, the auction house said.

Of note, auctioneer Bill Panagopulos said, Herrn Fritz Braun didn’t like it when Hitler began dating his daughter but changed his tune over time. “Early on, he wrote a letter to Hitler to leave his daughter alone, but Eva intercepted it and destroyed it. After Hitler came to power, Braun saw the advantages of friendship with the Nazis and became a regular visitor to the Berghof. He also became an officer in the German army,” he wrote in the description.
Among the other hundreds of items are one of two “little black books” of names collected by the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a monogrammed lighter and cigarette box owned by former President John F. Kennedy, and a letter written by Charles Manson follower Sandra Good that referenced their friend Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme’s assassination attempt on former President Gerald Ford.
