General motors (GM) has announced plans to increase production at its Fort Wayne, Indiana plant in response to recent auto tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump. This adjustment involves ramping up output for popular truck models like the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, and GM will be hiring additional temporary workers to meet these increased production needs. The new tariffs, set at 25%, will impact all vehicle imports and are being described as a permanent measure by Trump, who argues that they are necessary to counter unfair practices by foreign nations. the Fort Wayne facility employs over 4,100 staff and produces more than 1,300 trucks daily.other automakers, including Ford and Stellantis, are also adjusting thier strategies in light of these tariffs, with Ford launching a promotion aimed at U.S. consumers.

General Motors is the latest automobile company to respond to President Donald Trump’s newly implemented auto tariffs, announcing it will be ramping up production in Indiana.
The shake-up for GM, known for brands such as Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC, will bring about an uptick in production at its plant near Fort Wayne, Indiana, which is known for producing Chevrolet’s Silverado 1500 and GMC’s Sierra 1500. The increase in productivity will also extend to hiring hundreds of temporary employees.
“General Motors will be making operational adjustments at Fort Wayne Assembly, including hiring temporary employees, to support current manufacturing and business needs,” a spokesperson for the automaker said in a statement. “We continuously update and revise production schedules as part of our standard process of evaluating and aligning to manage vehicle inventory.”
GM’s Fort Wayne assembly plant employs 4,149 people and produces over 1,300 trucks daily, according to GM’s website.
The new auto tariffs will affect all imports and are set at 25%. Trump said last week that these tariffs would “absolutely” be permanent because foreign nations have been “ripping off the United States for the last 40 years and more.”
Beyond GM, Ford Motor Company has also unveiled its “From America, For America” campaign in a bid to woo consumers amid the new tariffs. Ford’s new promotion, running through June 2, will offer employee pricing to all U.S. customers on almost every Ford and Lincoln model.

Stellantis NV, meanwhile, is pausing production at some of its plants and temporarily laying off 900 employees. Two of the plants affected by this pause include the Windsor Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada, and the Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico.
