Gold Star Families Criticize President Biden’s Behavior
Gold Star mother Cheryl Rex and wounded Marine SGT Tyler Vargas-Andrews have both expressed their disappointment with President Joe Biden’s behavior. They claim that he consistently makes every conversation about himself and his late son Beau Biden.
Sgt. Vargas-Andrews, who survived the suicide-bomb attack in Kabul, recalls Biden’s visit to his hospital room while he was recovering. Despite Vargas-Andrews’ injuries, Biden reached out to shake his hand and immediately started talking about his son. Vargas-Andrews found this behavior strange and felt that Biden did not acknowledge the gravity of the situation.

Vargas-Andrews’ mother was furious with Biden’s behavior and demanded that he take care of her son for the rest of his life. The conversation became even more bizarre when Biden asked Vargas-Andrews, “What do you want?” This confused Vargas-Andrews, who had just experienced a traumatic event, and he simply wanted to be himself. The conversation avoided any mention of the explosion that nearly took his life.
Cheryl Rex, who spoke at a forum for families affected by the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, shared a similar experience with President Biden.

Rex recalls Biden approaching her and saying, “My wife, Jill and I, know how you feel. We lost our son as well and brought him home in a flag-draped coffin.” This statement deeply affected Rex, as she realized that Biden’s son died from cancer and that he was able to be by his side during his final moments. She found it heartless for Biden to claim he understood her grief after only 24 hours of learning about her son’s death.
Since that moment, Rex has received no further communication from President Biden and feels that he has not honored her son’s sacrifice or even mentioned his name. She believes that Biden’s leadership failed in the final days of the Afghanistan withdrawal.
