NASA is interested in a flying object worth $10 quintillion. Could it be a golden ticket for Biden?
Golden Ticket for Biden? NASA Eyeing Flying Object Valued at $10 Quintillion
Imagine a country in desperate need of a spontaneous infusion of $10 quintillion. That’s $10,000,000,000,000,000,000, in case you were wondering. Well, that country happens to be the United States of America, which is currently drowning in over $32 trillion of debt.
But here’s where things get interesting. NASA has its eyes on an asteroid called 16 Psyche, which is valued at a mind-boggling $10 quintillion. This asteroid is inching closer to being studied, and the excitement surrounding it is palpable.
“The team and I are now counting down the days to launch,” says Henry Stone, the project manager at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. “Our focus has shifted to safely completing the final mechanical closeout of the spacecraft and preparing the team for operations. It’s a very busy time, but everyone is very excited and looking forward to the launch.”
It’s worth noting that NASA doesn’t explicitly mention the astronomical value of 16 Psyche in its release. However, multiple outlets, including Business Insider, have reported on its staggering worth. The asteroid is said to be “metal-rich” and is believed to be the partial core of a small planet-like body.
While 16 Psyche may not be a magical solution to the country’s financial woes, it does hold some eye-popping numbers. For instance, it is just one asteroid in a larger belt of mineral-rich asteroids, estimated to be worth a mind-blowing $700 quintillion. Another asteroid in the belt, named Davida, is valued at $27 quintillion.
Even if the sudden introduction of 16 Psyche caused a drop in precious metal prices, a 90 percent decrease would still put its value at $1 quintillion. That’s enough to wipe out America’s massive debt several times over.
Furthermore, the exploration of 16 Psyche could pave the way for a burgeoning space mining industry, predicted to become a trillion-dollar industry by 2040. While this may not solve the national debt crisis entirely, it would be a step in the right direction.
So, while the $10 quintillion asteroid may not be a golden ticket for President Joe Biden and his administration, it represents a glimmer of hope for the future of space exploration and the potential economic benefits it could bring.
