Talor Gooch Wins First LIV Tour Title
Talor Gooch emerged victorious at the LIV Golf Adelaide tournament held at The Grand Golf Club on Sunday, earning a US $4 million prize. Despite having a 10-shot lead over former Masters champion Charl Schwartzel going into the final round, Gooch encountered a mid-round slump that saw his lead slowly but surely dwindle. However, Gooch held on to his nerves and managed to stay three strokes ahead of Anirban Lahiri, securing his first LIV Tour title.
Gooch initially started strong, beginning the day at 20-under after back-to-back rounds of 62. He added another shot with a birdie on the fifth hole but then dropped four strokes in four holes, recording back-to-back bogeys on the seventh and eighth holes, followed by a double bogey on the 10th. This allowed the chasing pack to close in.
Lahiri, who initially trailed Gooch by 11 shots, stepped up his game and managed to pull within two strokes of the leader at one point. Nevertheless, Gooch rallied, scoring birdies at the 11th and 13th holes, enabling him to steady his game and clinch his first LIV Tour win.
Aside from the individual event, the team event took place as well. Captained by Dustin Johnson and featuring Patrick Reed, Peter Uihlein, and Pat Perez, the 4Aces emerged victorious and won US $3 million, finishing one shot ahead of the Range Goats captained by Bubba Watson.
