GOP megadonor says funds for Trump hinge on who gets picked for vice president
Multibillionaire Ken Griffin said he is waiting to see who Donald Trump chooses as his vice president before making any donations to the former president’s campaign.
Griffin is one of the biggest donors in the country’s history, having donated $233 million to federal elections. He donated $5 million to Nikki Haley’s allied super PAC this campaign cycle, and in 2016, he donated money to Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)’s presidential run. Rubio has been floated around as a name on Trump’s short list for vice president.
Since May, Griffin has stated that he wouldn’t be donating any money to Trump until he knew who his pick for vice president would be.
Trump is reportedly prepared to announce his vice presidential pick on Monday at the start of the Republican National Convention. For months, media outlets have been speculating who would clinch the coveted position.

While Griffin is continuing to withhold funds for Trump, he expressed his sympathies for Trump and the family members of Corey Comperatore, the man killed on Saturday.
“Our society and democracy have no place for political violence, and we must condemn it in no uncertain terms,” Griffin said in a statement. “As Americans, we are fortunate to have the right to peacefully resolve our political differences by casting our votes.”
