GOP Rep Urges Grizzly Bear Removal from Endangered List After Fatal Attack
Republican Montana Rep. Matt Rosendale Renews Call to Remove Grizzly Bear from Endangered Species List
Republican Montana Rep. Matt Rosendale is urging Congress to remove the grizzly bear from the endangered species list following a tragic incident near Yellowstone National Park. A woman was killed by a grizzly bear, and Rosendale believes that such tragedies can be prevented.
Tragedies like this are preventable.
The grizzly bear has exceeded set recovery targets. It’s time for Congress to pass my bill to delist the grizzly bear and return management to Montanans.https://t.co/QvffRiSt1d

Rosendale’s bill, the Comprehensive Grizzly Bear Management Act of 2023, has already passed the House Committee on Natural Resources. The bill aims to give Montana the authority to manage its grizzly bear population, as the species has exceeded the set recovery targets.
According to Rosendale, there are now over 1,100 grizzly bears in the Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem alone. He believes that it is time for the federal government to allow Montana to take control of the management of these bears.
Should the grizzly bear be removed from the endangered species list?
Amie Adamson, 48, was tragically mauled by a grizzly bear in southern Montana. Her body was discovered on a hiking trail outside Yellowstone National Park. Tracks of a grizzly bear and at least one cub were found at the scene, and a trail camera captured an image of a grizzly bear with two cubs in the area. Efforts are underway to capture the bear responsible for the attack.
Grizzly bear sightings have become more common in the area, and the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks states that the species has recovered and increased in population. However, this has also led to a greater potential for conflicts with humans. At least nine people have been killed by grizzlies in and around Yellowstone since 2010.
