House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s pick to lead the review of Capitol Hill security faced scrutiny among Republicans. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) took to Twitter Wednesday and said retired Army Lieutenant General Russel Honore is “an extreme partisan and should be the last person to head up an investigation.”

In a now-deleted tweet, Honore reportedly made derogatory remarks at Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) and called for Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) to be canceled. In addition, Honore spoke to MSNBC last month and said protesters should not simultaneously be allowed to exercise their First and Second Amendment rights.

“Some rules they gotta change is we can’t have demonstrators showing up at a state capitol with damn long guns. Your First Amendment rights don’t give you the right to carry long guns to a demonstration and that is confusing the hell out of police and intimidating people.”

The retired lieutenant general claimed in a previous interview with MSNBC that the attack on the Capitol was an inside job. He later called for Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) to be placed on a No Fly List after she insisted on exercising her Second Amendment right on Capitol Hill.
