GOP Sen. Moody Backs Pete Hegseth’s SecDef Confirmation
Newly appointed senator Ashley Moody from Florida has publicly expressed her support for Pete hegseth’s nomination as teh next Secretary of Defense, as reported by The Federalist. Moody, who was sworn into the Senate after being appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis, replaces Marco Rubio, who resigned to join the Trump administration as Secretary of State.Hegseth’s nomination has moved forward following a party-line vote in the Senate Armed Services Committee and is expected to be voted on by the full Senate soon.
The article highlights the urgency felt by some Republican senators, like jon Husted of Ohio, to confirm Trump’s cabinet to ensure the government’s functionality. Moody’s backing of Hegseth comes despite a recent smear campaign against him from various media outlets, which included unsubstantiated allegations from his former sister-in-law regarding his conduct, assertions that have been denied by hegseth’s ex-wife. The situation remains closely watched as the senate prepares for its upcoming vote.
Newly sworn-in Sen. Ashley Moody, R-Fla., will vote to confirm Pete Hegseth as the next secretary of defense, The Federalist has learned.
“Senator Moody will be supporting Pete Hegseth’s nomination,” a Moody spokeswoman told The Federalist.
Moody was sworn into the Senate on Tuesday after being appointed to the position by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. The former Florida attorney general assumed the seat following the departure of Sen. Marco Rubio, who resigned his post to serve as secretary of state under the Trump administration.
The Senate unanimously voted to confirm Rubio as head of the State Department on Monday.
Hegseth’s nomination to lead the Pentagon was advanced in a party-line vote by the Senate Armed Services Committee on Monday and now awaits final approval from the full Senate. According to Fox News’ Chad Pergram, the upper chamber could potentially vote on the Army veteran’s confirmation “late Friday night or in the wee hours of Saturday morning.”
Hegseth also appeared to receive the backing of Sen. Jon Husted, R-Ohio, who was sworn in Tuesday to fill the vacancy left open by now-Vice President J.D. Vance. During a Wednesday interview on Newsmax, the Buckeye State’s junior senator emphasized the need for the Senate to get President Donald Trump’s cabinet in place.
“We need to give President Trump his team. If we want America be to be functional, we need to have a government,” Husted said. “That means cabinet secretaries, and it’s time to get them confirmed and move on and get this agenda implemented.”
Moody and Husted’s support is welcome news for Hegseth, who has found himself the target of a vicious smear campaign by corporate media hacktivists seeking to derail his nomination.
On Tuesday, NBC News and other left-wing propaganda outlets ran a hatchet job that included unsubstantiated allegations from Hegseth’s former sister-in-law that the Army veteran engaged in threatening conduct that left his second ex-wife fearful for her “safety.” It is only after readers get to the ninth paragraph of the NBC report that they are informed that Hegseth’s ex-wife denies the allegations.
“I do not believe your information to be accurate, and I have cc’d my lawyer,” Samantha Hegseth told NBC. “There was no physical abuse in my marriage.”
The report also noted paragraphs later that “[b]oth Pete Hegseth and Samantha Hegseth signed a 2021 court document that said neither parent claimed to be a victim of domestic abuse.”
Several GOP senators have vocally defended Hegseth against the onslaught of dishonest left-wing attacks.
In a Tuesday tweet, Sen. Tim Sheehy, R-Mont., blasted the media’s latest hit piece as a “desperate, last-minute attempt … to smear Pete Hegseth and tank his nomination.”
“Pete’s ex-wife is on record saying the claims are false, but the media doesn’t care because it hurts a Republican. Nobody should fall for this,” Sheehy wrote.
Sen. Jim Banks, R-Ind., issued a similar statement on X, saying that the press’s latest smear campaign is another example of “why nobody trusts the mainstream media.”
“Pete can’t be confirmed soon enough!” Banks wrote.
