GOP Senate candidate questions why white descendants of Civil War soldiers don’t get reparations. Join the conversation and share your thoughts!
Prepare to be shocked by the latest comments from Ohio Republican Senate candidate, Bernie Moreno. During a recent campaign rally, Moreno questioned why white Americans aren’t receiving reparations if they’re descendants of white Union soldiers who died during the Civil War.
Moreno is campaigning for the seat currently held by Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) and his comments have caused quite a stir. He went on to say that white people died to free black people, something that has never happened before in human history. He then floated the idea of reparations for the descendants of Union soldiers who fought against the Confederacy.
While some media outlets have reported that Moreno suggested reparations should be paid out to white people, his campaign spokesman, Conor McGuinness, has denied this. Instead, he claims that Moreno was making a point about political correctness run amok and the hypocrisy of the left.
Moreno is a businessman and the second Republican candidate to enter the race, facing a primary from state Sen. Matt Dolan. Republicans are hoping to pick off Brown in Ohio, a state that went for Trump both in 2016 and 2020.
