GOP staffer assaulted near Capitol Building, says representative.

Republican Staffer Attacked by Armed Assailant Near Capitol

Rep. Brad Finstad (R-MN) revealed that a member of his staff was brutally attacked by an armed assailant just blocks away from the Capitol building on Thursday night.

The attack occurred near the staffer’s home following the annual Congressional baseball game, according to a statement from the Republican congressman. Fortunately, the staffer sustained only minor injuries and is expected to fully recover.

“Following Wednesday’s Congressional Baseball Game for Charity, one of my staffers was attacked outside of his residence by an armed gunman,” Finstad said. “Thankfully, he will be able to make a full recovery and the extent of his physical injuries was minor. I thank the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department for their quick response and their attention to this incident.”

Finstad strongly criticized the “anti-police” and “soft-on-crime” policies prevalent in leftist cities across the country. He argued that these policies have created lawless societies that endanger the public and empower criminal behavior.

“It’s time we started treating criminals like criminals and bring back commonsense policies that imprison career criminals, keep the public safe, and allow our police officers to adequately protect our communities and keep violent criminals off the streets,” Finstad emphasized.

Rise in Violent Crime in Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C. has experienced a significant surge in violent crime in 2023. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, violent crime has increased by 21% compared to the same period last year. Homicides have risen by 16%, robberies by 31%, and motor vehicle theft by a staggering 120%.

Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky also revealed in March that one of his staffers was brutally attacked in broad daylight in D.C. The victim, an adult male, was stabbed multiple times and treated at a hospital for life-threatening injuries. The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Glynn Neal of Southeast D.C., was later arrested and charged with Assault with Intent to Kill (Knife).

Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN) also fell victim to an assault in D.C. when a 26-year-old homeless man attacked her in an elevator at her apartment building in February. Fortunately, Craig escaped with minor injuries and considered herself “very, very lucky.”
