Gov. Abbott responds to Biden’s refusal to enforce immigration laws, grants Texas law enforcement authority to intervene directly.
A Bold Move: Texas Takes Action to Secure Its Borders
According to the U.S. Constitution, the federal government has a duty to “repel invasions” (Article I, Section 8). Additionally, no state can engage in war without Congress’ consent unless actually invaded or in imminent danger (Article I, Section 10). However, with the Biden administration ignoring Section 8, Texas is taking matters into its own hands, moving closer to Section 10.
Governor Greg Abbott has declared that Texas will now subject people to arrest for illegal entry into the state from a foreign nation. He emphasizes that if invaders commit the crime, they will face the consequences, including up to 20 years in prison for refusing to comply with removal. This bold move by the Republican governor aims to crack down on repeated attempts to enter Texas illegally.
While a special legislative session was expected to focus on education, Governor Abbott’s agenda goes beyond that. He also seeks to prohibit COVID-19 vaccine mandates by private employers. However, the most significant goal for Abbott is border control, including more funding for the construction, operation, and maintenance of border barrier infrastructure.

The Biden administration’s reversal of the enforce immigration laws, grants Texas law enforcement authority to intervene directly.”>border wall construction suspension initiated by former President Donald Trump has further fueled Texas’ determination. Governor Abbott’s call for a special legislative session also includes addressing public safety, security, environmental quality, and property ownership in an area known as Colony Ridge. This unincorporated area, nearly twice the size of Manhattan, has become a center for murder, squalor, and cartels.
Texas congressional Republicans describe Colony Ridge as having a staggering illegal immigrant population. Local law enforcement considers it a “no go” area due to reported increases in violent crime since new residents, many unlawfully present, have moved in.
The area known as Colony Ridge has become a hotbed of criminal activity, including high-profile murders and drug cartel operations. Texas congressional Republicans have called for a thorough investigation into this issue, as local law enforcement considers it a dangerous zone.
Today, I led the Texas GOP House delegation in a letter to Gov. Abbott and AG Paxton regarding disturbing reports about Colony Ridge in Liberty County.

It remains to be seen if the Texas Legislature will follow Governor Abbott’s call to tackle the invasion problem. He wants legislators to pass laws that mirror the federal immigration laws President Joe Biden refuses to enforce, aiming to reduce illegal immigration and enhance the safety of Texans. Ultimately, Abbott’s goal is to reaffirm that we are a country with borders.
Texas, the eyes of the nation are upon you.
