Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) was on the defensive after being confronted about the nursing home death coverup. On Friday, the governor lashed out at reporters and blamed the Trump administration, calling it a political attack from former HHS officials.

The governor then pivoted from the topic and began talking about the Capitol Hill violence to deflect from his own misdeeds. Cuomo went on to callously dismiss the claims that his state health department drastically undercounted COVID-19 nursing home deaths.

“A third of all deaths in this nation are from nursing homes. New York state, we’re only about 28 percent, only,” Cuomo stated. “We’re below the national average number of deaths in nursing homes, but who cares, 33, 28 died in a hospital, died in a nursing home. They died.”

Cuomo’s final defense regarding the coverup was “we did the best we could.” New York’s attorney general has been investigating the death count.
