California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) recently claimed the state helped Tesla CEO Elon Musk grow Tesla into what it is today. During a press conference on Friday, Newsom called Musk one of the world’s greatest innovators and entrepreneurs, adding state tax subsidies helped his company get to where it is.

In the meantime, Musk announced Tesla headquarters would be moving out of the Golden State to Texas. He previously threatened to move company headquarters back in 2020 due to coronavirus lockdowns in California. Although, Newsom has said nobody has invested more in Tesla than the Golden State.

“By the way, it would be interesting to get the facts on how much California has invested in Tesla,” taunted Newsom. “No other, I mean hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayer subsidies we’ve provided that company. Our regulatory environment helped create that company and grow that company.”

The Democrat governor said he has a deep respect for the Tesla CEO, adding he also has deep respect for his state and what it’s done to support investments.
