Granger Smith quits music for ministry: Beyond self-promotion.
Country Music Star Granger Smith Leaves Music Industry for Christian Ministry
Country music star Granger Smith recently announced his departure from the music industry to pursue full-time Christian ministry. In a heartfelt Instagram post reflecting on his final performance, Smith shared a “keepsake” photo and clarified his reasons for the change.
“I took this pic on Saturday – a keepsake from my last show as a touring musician,” Smith wrote. ”It’s been such a privilege to claim that job title for so many years!”
Smith wanted to make it clear that this transition is not retirement or a result of burnout, illness, heartbreak, or grief. Instead, he expressed that he feels more at peace and free than ever before. He explained that his decision is inspired by the biblical parable found in Matthew 13:44, which compares the kingdom of heaven to a hidden treasure in a field.
“The real reason I’m pursuing Christian ministry is to proclaim the name of Christ!” Smith emphasized. “I want Him to be known, and I want to know Him more. That is the real reason I’m leaving music touring.”
Smith assured his fans that he hopes to see them again soon “on a new kind of stage.” In addition to his music career, he has also been working on his book, Like a River, which was released on August 1st. The book shares a powerful spiritual encounter Smith had with God after the tragic drowning death of his son in 2019. It offers readers a triumphant story of finding new life amidst tragedy and teaches them how to confront their pain, face their failures, and connect with God as the true source of life.
