Grassley slams Dems for 11th climate change hearing.

Sen. Chuck ‍Grassley Blasts Senate Democrats for Prioritizing Climate Change Hearings Over National⁢ Debt

During‍ a Senate‍ Budget Committee hearing‌ titled “Beyond the Breaking Point:⁣ The⁤ Fiscal Consequences of Climate Change on Infrastructure,”‍ Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) passionately criticized Senate Democrats and the Biden administration for⁢ their focus on climate change instead of addressing the United ⁤States’ mounting debt.

“Our⁢ nation is over 32 trillion dollars in ‌debt, yet this‌ committee is holding the 11th hearing on climate‍ change,” Grassley exclaimed. He ⁢further ⁤expressed his concern about President Biden’s economic‌ performance, highlighting the struggles of everyday Americans who are facing rising costs⁢ of⁤ groceries and gasoline. Grassley emphasized ‍the urgent need to⁣ rein in ‍spending, pointing ⁢out that Democrats have failed to produce a budget for the past two years.

While ‍acknowledging the importance‌ of⁣ discussing climate change, Grassley‌ highlighted his long-standing support for renewable⁢ energy, including‍ his authorship of the wind energy tax credit. He proudly shared that Iowa recently achieved⁣ a significant milestone, with 64% of the state’s ⁢energy production coming ⁣from wind, ⁢setting a new⁢ record.

“Democrats called this hearing to‌ discuss the fiscal impact of climate change on infrastructure. I anticipate hearing ⁤costly estimates and alarming anecdotes about the effects of severe ⁢weather events on our⁤ infrastructure,” Grassley stated. However, he pointed out that none of the experts present in the room were qualified climate scientists capable of explicitly attributing those estimates and‌ anecdotes ‌to climate‍ change.

Grassley has been a ⁢vocal opponent of the ‍Biden ⁢administration on various ⁢issues. He supported‍ a resolution to revise the “Waters of‌ the U.S.” rule in the Clean Water Act, which determines federal pollution ⁤regulations for waterways. Although the resolution passed both chambers of Congress, President Joe Biden vetoed it.

In a significant blow⁢ to ⁣the‍ Environmental Protection Agency⁣ and the Biden administration, the Supreme ⁢Court ruled in favor of landowners ⁣and business groups in Sackett v. ‍EPA. The‍ ruling limited federal authority to regulate small bodies of water, such as wetlands, which had been a point ‌of contention.

Grassley hailed the Supreme Court’s decision as a “victory ⁣for farmers, builders, ⁣landowners, and common sense.”
