Greg Gutfeld has considered taking over Tucker Carlson’s prime-time slot.
The Possibility of Greg Gutfeld Filling Tucker Carlson’s Shoes on Fox News
The star of Fox News’s hit late-night show, Gutfeld!, has been contemplating the idea of taking over Tucker Carlson’s role on the network. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, host Greg Gutfeld revealed, “Obviously, it’s crossed my mind.”
“If I did 8 o’clock, I would definitely not do The Five and I would no longer do Gutfeld!,”
Gutfeld emphasized that he would focus solely on one show, stating, “I would just do one show because I would prepare for that show like crazy.”
Executive producer of Gutfeld!, Tom O’Connor, also believes that Gutfeld would excel in the 8 p.m. slot previously occupied by Tucker Carlson. O’Connor expressed, “I think he could probably be successful in any of the timeslots. I mean, we were on at 3 in the morning East Coast time when we did Red Eye and people found us.”
Gutfeld initially joined Fox News in 2007 as a contributor and hosted the 3 a.m. panel show called Red Eye. After leaving the program in 2015, he went on to host The Greg Gutfeld Show on a weekly basis until 2021 when his daily late-night show, Gutfeld!, premiered.
In April, Fox News announced the unexpected departure of prime-time host Tucker Carlson. The network spokesperson stated, “FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways. We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor.”
As of now, Fox News has not announced a replacement for the 8 p.m. hour and is currently featuring various contributors in rotation. Meanwhile, Tucker Carlson has launched a new show on Twitter, posting five episodes so far.
However, it has been reported that Fox News sent Carlson a cease and desist letter, claiming that his content is contractually exclusive to the network until December 31, 2024. Additionally, several former Fox News staffers from Tucker Carlson Tonight have reportedly left the network to join his Twitter program.
