Greta Thunberg to receive honorary degree from theology faculty at Finnish university

Swedish activist, Greta Thunberg, will receive an honorary doctorate degree in theology from a Finnish university in June 2023. The ceremony will coincide with the 100th anniversary of Finland’s Freedom of Religion Act, and the theme of freedom will be highlighted during the proceedings.

Thunberg will be one of eight recipients, most of whom are involved in the study of religion. However, the selection also includes two professors unrelated to theology. The professor of the faculty of theology chose Thunberg due to her activism and influence in campaigning against fossil fuels in the name of stopping climate change.
