Hakeem Jeffries says MTG has become ‘one of the most important House Republicans’
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) dubbed Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) “one of the most important House Republicans” and mused that she could be on the 2024 presidential ticket.
Jeffries said that Greene is the “last person” he would take political insight from after being asked about how some Republicans, such as the Georgia representative, view the possible Manhattan District Attorney indictment of former President Donald Trump as an “empowering political moment” during the debut of MSNBC’s Inside with Jen Psaki.

He continued, “Although I should note that she has become one of the most important House Republicans in the Congress. … For all we know, [she] could be on the presidential ticket as the vice presidential candidate for Donald Trump.”
Greene rebuked rumors that Trump may get arrested and indicted this week over an investigation revolving around the alleged $130,000 hush money payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 cycle and alleged related falsification of business records.
“If the Manhattan DA indicts President Trump, he will ultimately win even bigger than he is already going to win. And those Republicans that stand by and cheer for his persecution or do nothing to stop it will be exposed to the people and will be remembered, scorned, and punished by the base,” Greene tweeted.

Jeffries further contended that Greene has become important to the “extreme MAGA Republican House majority in the Congress,” but argued that voters previously rejected extremism in the 2022 midterm elections and postulated that they will do so again if Greene is selected as a vice presidential running mate.
“The American people rejected political street extremism all throughout the country in the most recent midterm elections in 2022. And it’s my expectation that they will continue to do so moving forward. It is unfortunate that the extreme has become mainstream for this version of the Republican Party,” he said.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) ordered relevant committees to investigate the Manhattan district attorney’s office after revelations of the potentially imminent Trump indictment emerged.
“It’s not clear to me what committee the speaker may be referring to. Perhaps the so-called weaponization Committee, which is really more appropriately named the Committee to Protect Insurrectionists,” Jeffries said.

Jeffries added that he has confidence in the Democrats that are in the relevant committees and stressed that they will continue “pushing back against the extreme MAGA Republican overreach that we continue to see and have seen over the first few months of this new Congress.”
Host Jen Psaki served as the Biden White House press secretary from January 2021 until May 2022. Sunday’s show marked the formal debut of her new show, Inside with Jen Psaki, on MSNBC.
