Haley hits Trump after Putin critic Navalny’s mysterious death in Russian prison

Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley took a shot at former President Donald Trump Friday following the death of prominent Vladimir Putin critic Alexei Navalny in Russian prison under mysterious circumstances.

“Putin did this,” Haley posted on X. This is the same person, she added, “who Donald Trump praises and defends.”

She pointed to a comment Trump made while campaigning for president in 2016, recalling it is “the same Trump who said: ‘In all fairness to Putin, you’re saying he killed people. I haven’t seen that.’”

— Nikki Haley (@NikkiHaley) February 16, 2024 According to a translated statement from the Russian prison service, “On Feb. 16, 2024, in penal colony number 3, convict Alexei Navalny felt unwell after a walk, almost immediately losing consciousness.”

Navalny was just 47 years old and the most prominent opposition figure of Putin’s regime.

Trump has yet to remark on the death of Putin’s political rival. His campaign did not provide comment to the Washington Examiner.

At the Munich Security Conference, Vice President Kamala Harris remarked on the development. “Whatever story they tell, let us be clear, Russia is responsible,” she said.

The death of Navalny comes as lawmakers in Congress debate continued aid to Ukraine, two years after Russia invaded the country. Earlier this week, the Senate passed a $95.3 billion measure with military aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, but the bill faces an uncertain future in the House.
