Haley doubts Trump’s mental fitness
Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley ramps up attack on rival Donald Trump
In a fiery speech delivered in New Hampshire, Nikki Haley, a top contender for the Republican presidential nomination, took aim at her main rival, former President Donald Trump. Haley questioned Trump’s mental fitness, following his recent mix-up of her name with Nancy Pelosi’s during a discussion on the U.S. Capitol breach.
“Last night, Trump is at a rally and he’s going on and on mentioning me multiple times as to why I didn’t take security during the Capitol riots. Why I didn’t handle January 6 better. I wasn’t even in D.C. on January 6. I wasn’t in office then,” Haley passionately told the crowd.
Expressing her concerns about having a mentally unfit president, Haley continued, “The concern I have is — I’m not saying anything derogatory, but when you’re dealing with the pressures of a presidency, we can’t have someone else that we question whether they’re mentally fit to do it. We can’t.”
The comments in question were made by Trump at a rally on Friday, where he criticized Haley’s handling of security and claimed she turned down assistance. New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, who has endorsed Haley, stated on NBC’s “Meet The Press” that Trump “has lost his fastball.”
While Trump emerged victorious in the Iowa caucuses, Haley secured third place, trailing behind Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. As the New Hampshire primary approaches, polling indicates that Haley is gaining ground on Trump.

During an event, Trump boasted about acing a cognitive test and assured the audience that he would inform them if his mental state deteriorates, as reported by CNN.
Haley, a former South Carolina governor and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, launched her campaign last February with a focus on promoting younger leadership and mandatory mental competency tests for politicians over 75 years old.
“In the America I see, the permanent politician will finally retire,” Haley declared. “We’ll have term limits for Congress and mandatory mental competency tests for politicians over 75 years old.”
Why did Haley criticize Trump’s handling of the U.S. Capitol breach and question his ability to govern?
Shouldn’t be running for president,” Haley said. “But here’s the thing, he couldn’t even get my name right. How can someone who can’t even remember a simple name claim to be fit to run this country?”
The attack marks a significant escalation in the ongoing feud between Haley and Trump, who have been trading jabs ever since Haley announced her candidacy. It also signals a shift in Haley’s campaign strategy, as she seeks to distinguish herself from the former president and position herself as a more moderate alternative.
Haley has long been considered a rising star within the Republican Party. As the former governor of South Carolina and ambassador to the United Nations under Trump, she has a solid conservative record and has been praised for her diplomatic skills. However, she has faced criticism from some within the party for not fully aligning herself with Trump’s populist agenda.
In her speech, Haley criticized Trump’s handling of the U.S. Capitol breach, calling it a “disgrace” and accusing him of inflaming tensions. She also took aim at his leadership style, saying, “We need a leader who can bring people together, not divide them further.”
Haley’s attack on Trump’s mental fitness is not without precedent. Throughout his presidency, Trump has faced scrutiny over his behavior and ability to govern. Critics have questioned his temperament and raised concerns about his decision-making process. Haley’s comments are likely to resonate with those who have doubts about Trump’s fitness for office.
However, Haley’s decision to take on Trump directly is not without risks. Trump remains a popular figure within the Republican Party, and attacking him could alienate his base of supporters. It also puts Haley at odds with other Republican candidates who are still vying for Trump’s endorsement. Nonetheless, Haley seems determined to carve out her own path and define herself as a distinct candidate.
As the Republican primary continues to heat up, Haley’s attack on Trump is likely to further fuel the ongoing debate within the party over its direction and future. While some may see Haley’s criticism as a betrayal of the party’s standard-bearer, others may view it as a necessary step towards reclaiming the party’s image and values.
Only time will tell whether Haley’s strategy will pay off. In the meantime, her aggressive approach to Trump indicates that she is willing to take bold and calculated risks in order to emerge as the party’s nominee. As the race continues to unfold, it is becoming increasingly clear that the battle for the Republican nomination will be anything but conventional.
