Hamas seizes car keys to restrict Gaza residents’ movement: Intel.
Residents of Gaza Reportedly Trapped as Hamas Confiscates Car Keys
Residents of Gaza have reportedly told intelligence operatives from an elite unit of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) that Hamas terrorists have confiscated people’s car keys to stop them from fleeing northern Gaza as Israel prepares to launch its ground invasion.
The residents made the remarks to an agent in Unit 504 of the Intelligence Corps, a top-secret unit that sends undercover agents on sensitive missions around the world.
A Gaza resident of Jabalia in the Gaza Strip told Israeli operatives that Hamas confiscated personal equipment and car keys from people in a shelter where he was staying.
“This is further evidence that the terrorist organization Hamas actively prevents its citizens from evacuating and protecting themselves,” the IDF said as it waits for more people to be evacuated to southern Gaza before it launches its operations.
Unit 504: Collecting Intelligence and Extracting Information
Unit 504 is split up into two different functions: one that collects human intelligence in close proximity to combat and operational areas where the IDF is active and the second is interrogating prisoners for the purpose of extracting intelligence that is immediately passed back to forces in the field.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry released evidence on Saturday showing that Hamas was setting up roadblocks to stop a line of thousands of cars from being able to evacuate.
“We have proof that Hamas is putting up roadblocks to prevent Palestinian civilians from evacuating from northern to southern Gaza,” it said in a statement that included satellite images.
“Hamas prides itself on putting civilians in harm’s way and is responsible for every civilian casualty,” it added.
The IDF has employed various methods to get civilians to evacuate yet Hamas has implored measures to stop them from leaving as the terrorist group wants to use civilians as human shields.

Why does the Israeli military accuse Hamas of using civilian infrastructure as launching sites for attacks?
Ns from seeking safety during times of conflict,” said the IDF spokesperson, Lieutenant Jonathan Conricus. “They are using their own people as human shields, further endangering their lives.”
The alleged confiscation of car keys is seen as a desperate attempt by Hamas to prevent residents from leaving northern Gaza as the Israeli military intensifies its airstrikes and prepares for a potential ground invasion. It is common knowledge that Israeli airstrikes target Hamas infrastructure and military installations, putting civilians at risk. By confiscating car keys, Hamas forces residents to remain within the targeted area, increasing the likelihood of civilian casualties.
The IDF has long accused Hamas of using civilian infrastructure, such as schools, hospitals, and residential buildings, as launching sites for rocket attacks against Israel. This tactic is aimed at exploiting Israel’s commitment to minimizing civilian casualties, as it must carefully consider the potential collateral damage before launching any strikes. By effectively confining residents to these areas, Hamas achieves its objective of using human shields to deter Israeli attacks.
The situation in Gaza has been tense for decades, with periodic escalations of violence between Hamas and Israel. The most recent escalation began in May 2021, following weeks of clashes between Israeli police and Palestinian protesters in Jerusalem. Rocket attacks from Gaza and Israeli airstrikes have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of people, the vast majority of whom are civilians.
The forced confinement of residents in Gaza raises significant human rights concerns. International law prohibits the use of civilians as human shields and the deliberate targeting of civilian populations. The actions of Hamas violate these fundamental principles and must be condemned by the international community.
The residents trapped in northern Gaza now face an impossible choice: risk their lives by remaining in a targeted area or attempt to flee and risk facing persecution from Hamas. This highlights the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, which has been compounded by years of an Israeli blockade and limited access to basic necessities such as food, water, and medical supplies.
The international community must urgently address the situation in Gaza and work towards a peaceful resolution. The forced confinement of residents and the use of human shields must be unequivocally condemned. Efforts should be made to provide humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population and to create conditions for a peaceful and sustainable solution.
As the conflict in Gaza continues to escalate, it is essential to remember that innocent civilians are bearing the brunt of the violence. The international community must step up its efforts to protect these vulnerable individuals and hold all parties accountable for their actions. Only through diplomacy and dialogue can a lasting peace be achieved in the region.
