Hamas demands Israel’s ceasefire as attacks persist; warns of more civilian casualties.
Top Hamas Official Calls for Ceasefire While Continuing Attacks on Israel
In a recent interview, Ghazi Hamad, a high-ranking Hamas official, suggested that Israel should agree to a ceasefire while Hamas terrorists continue launching attacks. This statement comes after Hamad openly declared that Hamas will repeatedly carry out attacks against Israel until the Jewish state is annihilated. Last month alone, Hamas was responsible for the deaths of 1,400 Israelis, with 5,300 wounded and approximately 240 kidnapped.
During an NBC News interview with foreign correspondent Matt Bradley, Hamad demanded that Israel release the thousands of Palestinian criminals and terrorists currently imprisoned if they wanted their hostages back. Hamas has made it clear that a ceasefire is necessary for the hostages’ release.
“But how can you ask for a ceasefire, how can you ask for Israel to stop their aggression when you go on television in Lebanon here last week can say that you will continue your aggression?” Bradley questioned. “You will continue to launch October 7s again and again.”
Hamad’s response was defiant: “What do you want us to do? To stop?”
Bradley emphasized that a ceasefire must be mutual, as that is how ceasefires work. However, Hamad insisted that they have the legal right to fight against the occupation, citing international law and comparing their struggle to fighting against the Nazis in Europe.
When pressed about Hamas intentionally targeting and killing innocent Israeli civilians, Hamad claimed to have no knowledge of such actions. Bradley then confronted Hamad about his remarks regarding the terrorist attack’s benefit of sparking anti-Semitic protests worldwide. Hamad did not deny the possibility of killing more civilians to incite further protests, stating that Hamas had no other choice but to fight against Israel.
“It costs you the lives of thousands of people, innocent people, will you do it again?” Bradley asked. “You’ve said you will to advance that cause again. Will you kill more civilians to get more protesters in the streets of Washington?”
Hamad’s response remained steadfast: “We are still fighting. You want us to stop? If we are stopped now, we will go back to the miserable situation, to humiliation, to be under the occupation.”

In order to achieve a sustainable ceasefire, what actions should the international community take to hold Hamas accountable
Attacks until Israel is annihilated?” Bradley asked Hamad.
Hamad responded by stating, “The ceasefire is not contingent upon Hamas halting its attacks. We will continue to defend ourselves and resist the Israeli occupation. We have the right to fight for our freedom and the liberation of our land.”
This contradictory stance from Hamad has raised eyebrows and brought into question the true intentions of Hamas. On one hand, they call for a ceasefire and demand the release of prisoners, but on the other hand, they openly admit their goal of destroying Israel and carry out acts of violence against innocent civilians.
It is important to analyze the nature of Hamas and its tactics. Hamas, classified as a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union, has a long history of violence and terrorism. Their charter calls for the destruction of Israel and the establishment of an Islamic state in Palestine. Despite engaging in political activities and participation in Palestinian elections, Hamas remains committed to its ideology of armed resistance against Israel.
The demands made by Hamad in his recent interview are not only unrealistic but also demonstrate a lack of sincerity and a disregard for peaceful negotiations. Releasing thousands of imprisoned criminals and terrorists would pose a serious risk to the security of Israel and its citizens. It is an unacceptable condition for a ceasefire, as it essentially rewards terrorism and undermines the legitimate legal system.
Israel has the right to defend its citizens from terrorism and maintain its sovereignty. It cannot be expected to entertain the demands of a group that openly seeks its destruction. While Israel has occasionally agreed to ceasefires in the past, these agreements have been constantly violated by Hamas, leading to further escalation and suffering for the people of both Israel and Gaza.
The international community must condemn the double standards and hypocrisy displayed by Hamas. It is crucial that pressure is exerted on Hamas to renounce violence and engage in meaningful dialogue with Israel. A sustainable and lasting ceasefire can only be achieved through genuine negotiations, where both sides are committed to peaceful coexistence and the recognition of each other’s right to exist.
Hamas should be held accountable for its actions and rhetoric. The international community, including the United Nations, should actively monitor and condemn any acts of violence or incitement carried out by this terrorist organization. Hamas cannot be allowed to continue attacking Israel while simultaneously calling for a ceasefire.
Both Israelis and Palestinians deserve to live in peace and security, free from the threat of terrorism. It is only through genuine dialogue, compromise, and a commitment to peaceful coexistence that a lasting solution can be reached. The time has come for Hamas and its leaders to choose the path of peace and abandon their destructive agenda.
