A spokesperson for Emhoff has previously denied the slapping allegation.
Harris campaign silent on allegations Emhoff hit former girlfriend
Vice President Kamala Harris‘s campaign is remaining silent about new allegations against her husband.
A number of accusations have emerged this year about second gentleman Doug Emhoff, including that he had an affair with a nanny during his first marriage and that he slapped a girlfriend during a 2012 event in France.
The Washington Examiner has reached out to the White House, the vice president’s office, and the Harris campaign seeking a response to the allegations but has not received a response.
The latest report from the Daily Mail includes details that the woman Emhoff slapped, a New York attorney who remains unnamed, was hit so hard in the face that she spun around.
She told the outlet that she is particularly upset that Emhoff is now positioning himself as a feminist, saying she is frightened watching “this completely fabricated persona being portrayed.”
“He’s being held out to be the antithesis of who he actually is,” she said. “That is utterly shocking.”
The allegations have generated relatively little news coverage, even after Emhoff confirmed that he had an affair during his first marriage. A spokesman for the second gentleman previously denied the slapping allegation, saying that “this report is untrue” and that “any suggestion that he would or has ever hit a woman is false.”
The woman, whom the Daily Mail is identifying only as Jane, said she met Emhoff on Match.com in 2012 and that he invited his son Cole to join them on their first date.
She said the relationship, which ended before Emhoff met Harris, was intense for a few months and he spoke openly about marrying her and having children. The slapping incident reportedly occurred because Emhoff thought the woman was hitting on a valet driver. She slapped him back, and the relationship ended soon afterward.
Emhoff has described the reports as a distraction and has posted on social media about being a proud girl dad.
