Harris downplays weak jobs report, asserts strong US economy.
Vice President Kamala Harris Endorses Biden’s Economic Platform
Vice President Kamala Harris delivered a compelling speech in the Congressional Heights neighborhood of Southeast Washington, D.C., where she announced new federal grants for over 43 organizations dedicated to supporting “underserved entrepreneurs grow and scale small businesses.”
“Last month, we created 187,000 new jobs,” Harris stated confidently, highlighting the recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. She emphasized that unemployment has remained below 4% for over a year, indicating a strong and stable economy. “Today, 187,000 more Americans are able to go to work to provide for their family and invest in their future.”
Harris continued to emphasize the success of President Biden’s economic policies, stating, “Since we took office, we have created more than 13 million new jobs, surpassing any other administration’s job creation record in just two and a half years.”
President Biden echoed Harris’s sentiments, emphasizing the positive aspects of the July jobs report. “Our economy added 187,000 jobs last month, and we’ve added 13.4 million jobs since I took office — more jobs added in 2 1/2 years than during any president’s four-year term,” he wrote.
The grants announced by Harris are part of the $125 million Capitol Readiness Program, authorized through Biden’s American Rescue Plan. These grants will be awarded to nonprofits, education institutions, and other private sector entities.
