Harris rejects DeSantis invite, won’t dispute ‘undeniable fact’

Vice President Kamala Harris Rejects Offer to Debate Ron DeSantis

Vice President Kamala Harris made a bold statement at a church convention in Florida, publicly refusing an offer to debate Ron ⁣DeSantis. The offer was regarding the state’s ⁣black⁢ history standards,⁣ which⁢ Harris criticized during a recent speech in ⁢Jacksonville.

“I’m‌ here in Florida, and I will tell you there is ⁤no roundtable, no ⁤lecture, no invitation we will accept to ⁤debate an undeniable fact,” Harris said to cheers. “There⁣ were⁣ no redeeming ⁣qualities ‍of slavery.”

Harris’s comments about the black history standards⁤ sparked controversy, as she called ⁤out the notion that enslaved people benefited from ⁢slavery. ⁣While some critics argue that her comments⁤ were based on a single bullet point in a larger curriculum, her speech garnered significant attention and‍ even received support from prominent Republicans.

In response to Harris’s remarks,⁤ DeSantis invited her to Florida to discuss the ‍state’s black history standards with ⁣one of⁣ the educators involved in their creation. However, Harris visited the state without engaging in a discussion.

“Over the past several weeks, the Biden administration has repeatedly disparaged our state‍ and misinformed Americans about our education system,” DeSantis wrote in a letter. “Our state pushed forward nation-leading stand-alone African American ⁤history standards — ⁢one ⁣of the only ⁤states in the nation to require this level of learning ‌about such an important subject.”

DeSantis also took the opportunity to address Harris’s role ⁢as the Biden administration’s “border czar” and suggested‌ a meeting to discuss the state’s‍ black history standards, while acknowledging her busy schedule.

Meanwhile, Harris continues to deliver speeches ‌alongside President Biden, focusing on various issues such as abortion access, gun control laws, voter drop boxes, and opposing⁤ “book bans” in public school ⁢libraries.

“As I said ‍last week when I was⁤ again here in Florida, we will ⁢not stop ‍calling out and fighting back against extremist ‍so-called⁤ leaders who‍ try to prevent our children from⁤ learning our true‍ and full ⁤history,”‌ Harris ‌said. “In this moment, let us remember it is in the darkness that the ‍candle shines⁣ most ‍brightly.”
