Harris repeats campaign mantras during star-studded campaign stop with Oprah – Washington Examiner
During a recent campaign event led by Oprah Winfrey in Farmington Hills, Michigan, Vice President Kamala Harris reiterated her standard campaign themes on various issues, including the economy and immigration. The rally, titled “Unite for America,” featured several prominent Hollywood celebrities, such as Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts, who participated via calls. Governor Gretchen Whitmer also made an appearance. The event had a lively atmosphere reminiscent of Winfrey’s television shows, with live audience engagement.
Harris addressed various topics and had a candid moment regarding gun rights, saying, “If somebody breaks in my house, they getting shot,” before joking about needing to manage the implications of her comment with her staff. The event marked a significant platform for Harris, with Winfrey having previously endorsed her during the Democratic National Convention. The Trump campaign later criticized Harris for her unscripted comments.
Harris repeats campaign mantras during star-studded campaign stop with Oprah
A litany of Hollywood celebrities and Democrats came out to an Oprah Winfrey-led campaign event in support of Vice President Kamala Harris, who repeated routine campaign lines on the economy, immigration, and other issues.
The rally, named “Unite for America,” took place in Farmington Hills, Michigan, and several celebrities, such as actors Meryl Streep, Bryan Cranston, and Julia Roberts, called in. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) made an appearance as well.
The event was reminiscent of Winfrey’s cable television news show, which had a live audience that reacted to each turn and twist of the event. Winfrey herself interviewed several people, including Kentucky’s Hadley Duvall, who was raped and impregnated by her stepfather.
Winfrey first expressed her support for Harris on the national stage at the Democratic National Convention.
A likely unscripted moment occurred later while Harris was discussing gun rights, when she remarked, “If somebody breaks in my house, they getting shot.”
“I probably should not have said that. My staff will deal with that later,” she added.
Harris laughed the statement off, and the rally continued. Former President Donald Trump’s campaign called her out for it on X.
The Trump campaign also called out Winfrey for saying she noticed a “change” after President Joe Biden ceded the Democratic nomination to Harris. “They’re not even trying to hide it anymore — it was all part of their plan,” the post said.
Harris has been gaining momentum in the presidential race, though Trump has been able to keep it close in key swing states such as Arizona, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. A bombshell CNN report released Thursday detailing allegations concerning North Carolina gubernatorial Republican nominee Mark Robinson could jeopardize the Trump campaign’s chances in the battleground state.
RealClearPolitics has Harris up nearly 2 points in its polling average. The vice president’s chances have seen an uptick since the Sept. 10 presidential debate, an event some observers thought Harris won.
