Vice President Kamala Harris Stands Up for Freedom in Roe v. Wade Decision
Vice President Kamala Harris expressed her disappointment with the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, emphasizing that it is a matter of fundamental freedom. Speaking on MSNBC’s The ReidOut with host Joy Reid, Harris argued that the government should not interfere with individuals’ healthcare choices.
Protecting Individual Freedom
“This issue, Joy, as you mentioned, is so fundamentally about freedom,” Harris passionately stated. “It’s about the freedom and autonomy of individuals to make decisions about their own lives and their own bodies.”
Harris continued, urging society to trust women and their ability to determine what is in their best interest. She questioned why a group of people in a state capitol or Washington, D.C. should have more authority to decide for a woman than she does herself.
“Trust women!” Harris exclaimed. “Trust them to know what is best for themselves and their families.”
The Importance of Elections
Harris emphasized the crucial role of electing congressional leaders who will support legislation to restore Roe v. Wade. She stressed the need for a United States Congress that values and respects the individual’s right to privacy and the freedom to make decisions regarding their reproductive health.
“We must recognize the connection between this issue and elections. Elections matter,” Harris asserted. “We need a Congress that understands and appreciates the rights of individuals, rather than having the government make decisions on their behalf.”
