Harris slams Trump over tariffs during MSNBC interview – Washington Examiner
During an MSNBC interview with Stephanie Ruhle, Vice President Kamala Harris criticized former President Donald Trump’s proposal of imposing significant tariffs on corporations that relocate outside the U.S. Harris stated that Trump’s approach lacks seriousness and comprehensive planning, emphasizing the importance of understanding the economic implications for everyday Americans. She argued that tariffs should not be a blanket solution and pointed out that Trump’s proposed tariffs could potentially lead to inflation, increasing costs for consumers. The interview took place in Pittsburgh, a crucial battleground state, and marked Harris’s first one-on-one national interview since becoming the Democratic nominee. She has been focusing on her economic proposals aimed at supporting the middle class as she seeks to improve her standing in polls regarding economic trust with voters.
Harris slams Trump over tariffs during MSNBC interview: ‘Not very serious’
Vice President Kamala Harris attacked former President Donald Trump‘s embrace of massive tariffs on corporations that move their business out of the U.S. during an interview with MSNBC‘s Stephanie Ruhle Wednesday afternoon.
“Well part of it is you don’t just throw around the idea of just tariffs, across the board, and that’s part of the problem with Donald Trump,” Harris said in an excerpt that was shared before the interview aired on television.
“I say this in all sincerity, he’s just not very serious about how he thinks about some of these issues,” Harris continued. “And one must be serious and have a plan, any real plan, that’s not just about some talking point ending in an exclamation at a political rally. But actually putting the thought into what will be the return on the investment, what will be the economic impact on everyday people.”
At multiple rallies this week Trump has claimed he will place either a 100% or 200% tariff on corporations that leave the nation but economists have claimed that could lead to inflation, causing higher costs for consumers.
Harris delivered a speech outlining her proposals to grow the middle class at the Economic Club of Pittsburgh in the Keystone State earlier Wednesday afternoon as she seeks to close the polling gap with Trump over whom voters trust best to handle the economy.
The interview with Ruhle was also filmed in Pittsburgh, as Pennsylvania remains an important battleground state key to a White House victory. The network claimed this is Harris’s first one-on-one network interview since becoming the Democratic nominee.
After becoming the Democratic nominee, Harris has limited the number of national media interviews she is willing to engage in.
Harris sat down with former talk show host Oprah Winfrey, last week for a “Unite for America” rally in Michigan in a rare moment with the media. But Winfrey endorsed Harris during last month’s Democratic National Convention when she gave a prime-time speech to attendees.
Harris and running mate Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) sat down for a joint interview with CNN’s Dana Bash in August and Harris faced a moderator panel of journalists with the National Association of Black Journalists this month.
The GOP including Trump’s running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), blasted Harris’s interview with Ruhle as “legitimately pathetic” on X citing The 11th Hour host’s past endorsement of the vice president.
This is legitimately pathetic for a person who wants to be president.
Ruhle has explicitly endorsed Harris. She won’t ask hard Qs.
Kamala runs from tough questions because she can’t defend her record.
If you want open borders and high groceries, vote for status quo Kamala. https://t.co/1JjGPHyOgo
