Since the presidential debate earlier this month, Harris has challenged Trump to another debate, while Trump has said he is not willing to participate in a second debate. Harris said Tuesday’s vice presidential debate, between her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), and Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), should not be the last debate voters see before Election Day. 

“In two days, I know we will cheer on Coach Walz when he debates J.D. Vance. But listen, also, their debate should not be the last word,” Harris said.

“I’m trying to debate Donald Trump again. I think he should debate again. The American people have a right to hear us discuss the issues. And as you say here in Las Vegas, I’m all in. I’m all in, even if my opponent is ready to fold,” Harris continued.

Harris has accepted CNN’s invitation for an Oct. 23 debate, but Trump declined, saying that it is too late for a second debate.

“The problem with another debate is that it’s just too late. Voting has already started,” Trump said at a recent rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, after posting on Truth Social, “THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!”

However, in 2020, Trump and then-candidate Joe Biden debated for the last time on Oct. 22, just 12 days out from the election. The CNN debate would be further from the election than the final debate in 2020, as this would be 13 days out from Election Day.

“Vice President Harris is ready for another opportunity to share a stage with Donald Trump,” Harris campaign chairwoman Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a statement. “Donald Trump should have no problem agreeing to this debate.”

Prior to the Sept. 10 presidential debate, Trump went back and forth for weeks about debating Harris before eventually accepting the invitation from ABC News.

Vance and Walz are set to debate on CBS News on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 9 p.m.
