Harris tests new strategy with clips of ‘unhinged’ Trump at rally – Washington Examiner
At a recent rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, Vice President Kamala Harris unveiled a new campaign strategy by showcasing video clips of former President Donald Trump, suggesting he is becoming “increasingly unhinged and unstable.” During her address, Harris referenced Trump’s recent comments regarding the potential use of the National Guard against “the enemy from within,” implying that he views anyone who opposes him as a threat. She emphasized the danger of Trump’s rhetoric, arguing that he is pursuing unchecked power and questioned his mental fitness for office. This marked a shift in her approach, as it was the first time she incorporated video evidence into her critiques of Trump, reinforcing her narrative that he poses a significant risk to the nation.
Harris tests new strategy with clips of ‘unhinged’ Trump at rally
At a campaign rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, Vice President Kamala Harris played clips of former President Donald Trump’s recent speeches to warn her supporters that Trump is growing “increasingly unhinged and unstable.”
In a new portion of her campaign stump speech, Harris played a tape for her attendees featuring Trump’s recent comment on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures that he could use the National Guard or regular military on “the enemy from within,” as well as other statements from his campaign rallies.
“You heard his words,” Harris said. “He’s talking about the enemy within Pennsylvania … he considers anyone who doesn’t support him or who will not bend to his will an enemy of our country.”
“Donald Trump is increasingly unstable and unhinged, and he is out for unchecked power,” she added.
Harris questioned Trump’s mental fitness and his capacity to serve another term, turning the age narrative onto Trump, who, for months, said the same about President Joe Biden before his exit from the race.
Harris has used “unstable” and similar words to describe the former president, but this was the first time she played clips of him.
While attendees of a political rally are likely already voting for either candidate and have made up their minds, the vice president’s decision to play Trump’s words could signal a new campaign strategy. Harris has previously implored voters to attend or view a Trump rally.
“I’m gonna invite you to attend one of Donald Trump’s rallies because it’s a really interesting thing to watch,” Harris said during the presidential debate with Trump. ”He talks about fictional characters like Hannibal Lecter. He will talk about windmills cause cancer. And what you will also notice is people start leaving his rallies early out of exhaustion and boredom.”
On Monday, Harris’s running mate, Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), went further than her, suggesting that the former president’s statements using the military against those he branded “the enemy from within” could even be treason, noting Trump’s words made him “sick to my stomach.”
Walz highlighted a comment by former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, who said Trump was a “fascist to his core,” as reported in Bob Woodward’s book War released Tuesday.
“Let that sink in, and don’t be a damn bit afraid of saying it because that’s exactly who he is,” Walz said. “That’s exactly who he is.”
