Harris versus Trump: 83% will watch debate, split on winner

Most voters plan to watch Tuesday night’s first and maybe only debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, but few expect a knockout.

In the latest Rasmussen Reports survey shared with Secrets, 83% of likely voters said they are going to watch the clash in Philadelphia. Slightly more Democrats than Republicans will check in, the pollster said. Just 6% have no plans to watch.

While both sides overwhelmingly think their candidate will win, all voters are split on who will come out on top.

Rasmussen said 44% expect Trump to “win,” to Democrat Harris’s 42%.

That finding sizes up where the race is today, with the candidates separated by a point in multiple national voter surveys.

The debate is highly anticipated for a couple of reasons. Most voters are still eager to hear from Harris, who has ducked reporters for weeks and offered few details about her policy agenda. On Monday, she finally uploaded an “issues” page to her campaign website, but it was mostly a cut-and-paste job from President Joe Biden’s now sidelined website.

And many are eager to see how Trump battles Harris and if he can resist taking shots at her.
