Harvard students’ anti-Israel letter backfires as employer responds via email.
Leading U.S. Law Firm Withdraws Job Offers from Harvard and Columbia Students Over Israel-Hamas Comments
The prestigious U.S. law firm Davis Polk has made the bold decision to rescind employment offers from three law students at Harvard and Columbia universities. This comes after the students made controversial comments about the Israel-Hamas conflict, sparking a public outcry.
The students’ remarks were published in open letters by university groups, blaming Israel for the recent terrorist attacks by Hamas. These attacks resulted in the tragic deaths of over 1,300 people, including at least 30 Americans.
The letters caused a significant backlash among various stakeholders, including university donors, employers, alumni, and fellow students.
Harvard University, which receives substantial U.S. aid, has faculty members and registered students openly blaming ISRAEL for the attacks by Hamas terrorists. This includes at least 14 Americans. The law firm Davis Polk has taken a stand against these statements.

The news of Davis Polk’s decision was announced by Managing Partner Neil Barr in an internal memo to the firm’s employees. The memo, which was later confirmed to be authentic, emphasized the firm’s commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive work environment.
Barr stated, “These statements are simply contrary to our firm’s values, and we thus concluded that rescinding these offers was appropriate in upholding our responsibility to provide a safe and inclusive work environment for all Davis Polk employees.”
He further added, “To ensure we continue to maintain a supportive and inclusive work environment, the student leaders responsible for signing on to these statements are no longer welcome in our firm; and their offers of employment have thus been rescinded.”
The names of the affected students were not disclosed in the email.
The controversial statements were made in open letters authored by the Harvard Undergraduate Palestine Solidarity Committee and co-signed by 33 other Harvard student organizations. These letters demanded that the university hold Israel entirely responsible for the violence and called for action to stop the alleged annihilation of Palestinians.
A similar letter was also issued at Columbia University.
While the identities of the students who had their job offers withdrawn remain unknown, some of the signatories’ names and faces were displayed on a truck driving around the Harvard campus, organized by Accuracy in Media, which labeled them as “Harvard’s Leading Antisemites.”
The United States has largely supported Israel’s military response to the Hamas attacks. President Joe Biden recently visited Israel and announced a $100 million aid package to support Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
