Hawley laughs off Chinese letter imploring senator to halt COVID-19 Origin Act
An official from China sent Sen. Josh Hawley (R.MO) a note in which he criticised his bill. declassify information regarding the origins of COVID-19 And imploring Senator Missouri to withdraw the bill from consideration.
Li Xiang is a Chinese Consul with the United States Embassy. She demanded Hawley rescind the bill. The lawmaker was accused of politicizing COVID-19 blaming the Chinese government for the pandemic. It is an answer to Hawley’s COVID-19 Origin Act. declassify information so lawmakers can prevent another pandemic from happening in the future.

“[The bill] falsely claimed that the COVID-19 corona virus originated from Wuhan Institute of Virology, accuses China of blocking international investigations, refusing to share information and lacking transparency etc. and required the Director of National Intelligence to declassify information relating to the origin of COVID-19,” Li wrote. “China firmly opposes and strongly condemns this.”
Hawley replied on Thursday to the email, and laughed at it.
“The Chinese government wrote to me and demanded I withdraw my Covid origins bill,” He tweeted. “Hahaha. Not a chance.”
Hawley’s bill was specifically targeted by the Chinese official for being a statement of a “reason to believe” It was believed that the pandemic began at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
