Josh Hawley urges House to undo Biden’s ‘sabotage’ before Trump’s return

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) called on House Republicans to actively work on undoing President Joe Biden‘s effect on the United States, citing how President-elect Donald Trump is returning to the White House in less than two weeks.

Ahead of Trump’s return to office on Jan. 20., many Republicans have been critical of Biden’s recent actions in the last days of his administration, including enacting a ban on new drilling along certain U.S. coasts. Hawley, who rebuked Biden’s “pettiness,” contended that the president has sought to “sabotage the country” throughout his presidency, including “opening our border” and opposing the nation’s oil and natural gas.

“The good news is that help is on the way, and Laura, the other thing this speaks to is Congress needs to get busy, get active right now, and start passing legislation to overturn all of this!” Hawley said on Fox News’s The Ingraham Angle. “We need to open up our energy production. We need to shut down our border. We need to get this country strong again. Congress can do it, and it’s time to get after it.”

Hawley also contended that Biden’s eleventh-hour actions are the end of his “parade of failures,” citing Biden’s handling of the war in Ukraine and “war everywhere we look.” As such, he attributed Biden’s handling of both foreign and domestic problems as the reason why Trump won the 2024 election and why the president-elect would focus on overturning Biden’s actions.

As such, the Missouri senator stressed that the Republican-controlled Congress should “get active” right away in working toward Trump’s agenda, as both the House and the Senate are currently in session. Republicans kept control of the House while also retaking the Senate in the 2024 election cycle.

“It’s time to give the American people some relief and get this country moving again,” Hawley said.

Biden’s last-minute actions, specifically his ban on new drilling, were also criticized by former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who contended the president told the public “you’re all going to be punished” over him dropping his reelection bid. Meanwhile, Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK) said the new ban was “no surprise” given the president’s opposition to U.S. energy.

House Republicans successfully confirmed House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on Friday, with Vice President Kamala Harris certifying the 2024 election results a few days later. Ahead of Trump’s return later this month, Johnson expressed enthusiasm for ending the grip “the deep state” has across the country.
