Here’s What You Missed on Twitter This Week, Vol. 7
Stacey Abrams went to Nigeria to monitor the country’s elections. President Joe Biden managed to speak coherently just long enough to tell an X-rated story. And Josh Hawley dinged a Biden nominee for lying under oath.
Here’s what you missed on Twitter this week!
1. Biden helpfully clarifies that his race doesn’t make him stupid.
The president and Vice President Kamala Harris spoke at a Black History Month reception on Monday, where Biden assured the audience that he “may be a white boy, but I’m not stupid.”
“I know where the power is,” he said as the crowd laughed and cheered. “You think I’m joking.”
Biden’s comment called to mind his infamous gaffe during a 2019 speech in Iowa, when he said “poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids.”

2. Stacey Abrams went to Nigeria to “evaluate” the country’s elections.
Stacey Abrams traveled to Nigeria to spend time “evaluating the ongoing Nigerian elections.”
“We have seen orderly lines, we have seen long lines, signaling strong enthusiasm,” Abrams told an Al Jazeera reporter. “But we’ve also seen a great deal of cooperation and a very peaceful conversation among voters. They want to be heard, and they are willing to stand in line and have patience because they know that’s their path to progress.”
Abrams has repeatedly denied the election results of the 2018 Georgia gubernatorial race, which she lost. In April 2021, she told Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas) that the election “was stolen from the voters of Georgia.” Her PAC, Fair Fight Action, claimed “unreliable” voting machines “erased 100,000 votes” in the race.

3. Josh Hawley called a Biden nominee out for false testimony.
Sen. Josh Hawley (R., Mo.) accused Biden’s pick for national archivist of lying under oath.
Colleen Shogan previously testified that her “personal Twitter account is comprised of posts about my mystery novels, events at the White House Historical Association, Pittsburgh sports teams, travels, and my dog.” During her nomination hearing on Tuesday, Shogan twice confirmed that this was her testimony.
Hawley asked the nominee if she remembered a post from Feb. 18, 2022, in which she complained about the lifting of mask requirements for children. Shogan claimed she did not remember the post before saying the Tweets were in her “personal capacity.”
“Is that a post about your dog, or sports teams? Yes or no?” Hawley asked. Shogan refused to give a yes or no answer, instead simply repeating that “my social media is in my personal capacity.”

4. Chip Roy gave a passionate pro-life speech on the House floor.
Rep. Chip Roy (R., Texas) told his colleagues about children who are alive because their mothers rejected abortion.
“My godson, who lives over in Old Town Alexandria, is alive today because his mother rejected the advice of the doctor who said that he should be aborted because of a bad scan,” he said. “I hope to make his basketball game tonight.”
“This is pretty simple, ladies and gentlemen. We believe in protecting all forms of life, [including] the unborn babies,” Roy added. “The other side of the aisle does not.”
The representative called out his Democratic colleagues for voting against the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which would require children who survive attempted abortions to receive medical care, rather than being left to die. Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar was the only Democrat to vote for the bill.

5. The president still can’t speak.
President Biden mumbled and told bizarre and uncomfortable stories during a Tuesday speech, and one viral blunder left social media users puzzled.
Biden turned to the side and attempted to address the audience. “By the way,” he began, before speaking incoherently. For clarity, we roughly translated it to “youdoxagoodifthesanensinlenotions.”

6. Pearl Nelson gave Biden the best hospital stay of his life.
Nurse Pearl Nelson would “come in and do things I don’t think you learn in nursing school” during his hospital stay, the president said.
“She’d whisper in my ear, I couldn’t understand, but she’d whisper and she’d lean down and actually breathe on me to make sure there was a human connection,” Biden told the crowd in the innuendo-filled rant. “She even went home and brought back her pillow from her own bed.”
Dr. Jill Biden could not be reached for comment.
Biden: “I had a nurse named Pearl Nelson. She’d come in and do things I don’t think you learn in nursing school. She’d whisper in my ear, I couldn’t understand, but she’d whisper and she’d lean down and actually breathe on me to make sure there was a human connection.” pic.twitter.com/qw1BKm4POX
