Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Iran-backed Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah, said an Iranian retaliation is “inevitable” days after an airstrike, reportedly by Israeli forces, destroyed Iran’s consulate in Damascus and killed two Iranian generals.
“Be certain that Iran’s response to the targeting of its Damascus consulate is inevitable,” Nasrallah warned in a speech marking Quds Day, a pro-Palestinian holiday observed by Iran and its allies. Israel was allegedly responsible for the Monday bombing of Iran’s diplomatic complex in the Syrian capital, causing the deaths of at least 13 people, including 2 top commanders in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The Hezbollah leader in his Friday speech also suggested that Israel would soon have to stop its war against Hamas due to growing international pressure, especially from the Biden administration.
“For the first time the occupation is feeling that they are paying a stiff price in the international arena,” Nasrallah said.
President Joe Biden, “who called himself a friend of Israel[,] said to [Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu] yesterday, stop the war you are losing the world,” Nasrallah went on.
Biden during a Thursday phone call with Netanyahu called for an “immediate ceasefire” in the Gaza Strip, denouncing the ongoing “humanitarian situation” as “unacceptable” and threatening to withhold support if Israel does not address it. Biden assured Netanyahu, however, that the United States would support Israel amid escalating aggression from the Iranian regime, according to a White House readout released after the conversation.
