Suspected Hezbollah Operative Arrested at Border Intended to Build Bomb in New York
Hezbollah Affiliate Arrested at U.S. Border, Bomb Plot Revealed
In a shocking revelation that’s stirring nation-wide concern, a Lebanese national with ties to the extremist organization Hezbollah was detained at the southern border. The man’s harrowing confession to U.S. authorities suggested a dire plot targeting American soil.
“I’m going to try to make a bomb.”
Basel Bassel Ebbadi, a 22-year-old Lebanese citizen, was apprehended by Border Patrol agents in El Paso, Texas, after illicitly crossing from Mexico on March 9. Insights from an internal report disclosed to the Washington Examiner shed light on this chilling incident.
In custody, Ebbadi expressed his intent to proceed to New York to construct an explosive device. This alarming statement prompted immediate action from the Border Patrol’s Tactical Terrorism Response Team.
The Confession and Intent
Upon being informed of his rights, Ebbadi delved deeper into his background. He claimed membership in Hezbollah, an Iran-backed organization designated as a terrorist group by the U.S. The gravity of his affiliation is underscored by Hezbollah’s recent support to Hamas during harrowing attacks against Israel, which led to a staggering toll of casualties and abductions.
Yet, in a twist, a separate document from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, obtained by the New York Post, indicated Ebbadi was fleeing the grips of terror groups because he “didn’t want to kill people.”
His history with Hezbollah spanned over a decade, with an upbringing steeped in extremism. Ebbadi revealed his specialized “jihad” training, aimed at targeting others based on religious discrimination.
A Nation on Alert
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) seized on this incident to vehemently criticize the current administration’s border security measures – or the lack thereof – linking this lapse to increased vulnerability to terrorist infiltration.
- “Inviting the inevitable“ – Cruz’s phrase echoing a looming threat if border policies remain unchanged.
- 58 individuals on the FBI’s terrorist watchlist arrested since the fiscal year 2024 commenced. A stark increase from the total of 172 for the whole previous year, dramatically underscoring the issue’s escalation.
Cruz’s concern extends beyond those apprehended to the “hundreds of thousands of gotaways“, unidentified and uncaught, who may pose even greater threats.
The gravity of these incidents cannot be understated, with the specter of previous atrocities like the October 7 attacks serving as a grim reminder of the potential consequences when national security measures fall short.
As of now, Customs and Border Protection has yet to respond to inquiries regarding this disturbing development. The country waits, watchful for the actions that will follow in the wake of this border breach and the echoing concerns over national safety.
