Hogan states he is not interested in Trump’s endorsement
Former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, a Republican running for the U.S. Senate, has publicly disavowed any interest in an endorsement from former President Donald Trump. Hogan stated in an interview with WTOP radio that he neither sought nor wanted Trump’s support, emphasizing that it would not be beneficial in Maryland where Trump lost by a significant margin. He mentioned that Trump’s endorsement does not align with his campaign goals and would not attract more voters to his cause. Despite his past high approval ratings and a successful tenure as governor, Hogan’s campaign and his spokesperson have consistently distanced themselves from Trump, reflecting similar positions he held during the 2016 and 2020 elections. This dismissal comes while Hogan’s Democratic opponents use Trump’s endorsement to suggest that Hogan’s win could potentially help the GOP gain a Senate majority under Trump’s leadership.
Republican former Gov. Larry Hogan said on Thursday he has “no interest” in former President Donald Trump’s endorsement of his Maryland Senate campaign.
“I didn’t seek it, I didn’t want to have it, and I have no interest in it,” Hogan said in an interview with WTOP radio. “It’s not something we’re gonna be promoting, that’s for sure, in a state that Donald Trump lost by 33 points.”
“It doesn’t really carry a lot of voters over to our cause, so I don’t think we’re going to have any interest in accepting it,” he added.
The former president said in an interview with Fox News last week that he “would like to see [Hogan] win.”
Hogan, a moderate Republican who left the governor’s office last year with a whopping 77% approval rating, is trying to flip a Senate seat in the heavily Democratic Maryland — in a race that could determine control of the chamber.
A Hogan campaign spokesperson rejected Trump’s endorsement in a statement to the Washington Examiner last week.
“Gov. Hogan has been clear he is not supporting President Trump, just as he didn’t in 2016 and 2020,” the spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, Hogan’s Democratic opponents have used the former president’s endorsement to argue that a Hogan victory could hand the GOP a Senate majority in November.

“[The GOP] is, in this moment, led by Donald Trump, and we are gravely concerned because we know that Larry Hogan will be voting to empower these [Senate] committee chairs that will turn America backwards,” Hogan’s opponent in the Senate race, Democrat Angela Alsobrooks, told the Washington Examiner last week.
Hogan, a longtime critic of the former president, most recently angered Trump’s campaign when he wrote in a post on X last month that Americans should “respect the verdict” in Trump’s New York hush money trial.
