Woody Harrelson supports Kennedy 2024, potentially challenging Biden in Democrat primary.
Hollywood film actor Woody Harrelson appeared to throw his support behind Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., donning a Kennedy 2024 cap and posing in a recent photo with Mr. Kennedy’s wife, actress Cheryl Hines.
On Thursday, the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” actress shared a photo on Instagram alongside Mr. Harrelson, with the caption, “Great seeing you Woody.” Her caption then called further attention to Mr. Harrelson’s Kennedy 2024 cap, with the “#friends #hats #rfkjr.”
While Ms. Hines’s Instagram post strongly implied Mr. Harrelson’s endorsement of her husband’s presidential campaign, Mr. Harrelson has yet to address the matter directly.
NTD News reached out to Mr. Harrelson’s representatives for comment but they did not answer by the time this article was published.
Mr. Kennedy is a graduate of Harvard University and has led a career as an environmental lawyer, successfully suing government agencies and companies accused of contaminating waterways. Mr. Kennedy also founded Children’s Health Defense, which has criticized certain vaccines and advocated for health freedom and bodily autonomy.
Mr. Kennedy is currently challenging the Democratic incumbent, President Joe Biden, for the party’s 2024 presidential nomination, as is author Marianne Williamson.
The Real Clear Politics polling average shows Mr. Kennedy trailing Mr. Biden by about 50 points on average, though some polls have shown the Democratic challenger with as much as 20 percent of the Democratic base.
Fans React To Harrelson Photo
The Instagram post has garnered more than 15 thousand likes in the past day, as well as more than 1,000 comments.
“Omgosh this makes me so happy!” author and podcaster Cathy Heller wrote, with clapping emojis. “The support is going to be rolling out more and more as people begin to share how they really feel. I love you.”
“RFK, Jr has got my vote and my 93 year old momma’s vote. The future First Lady is mighty cool too…and so is Woody!” read another reply comment.
While some comments celebrated the endorsement, others ridiculed Mr. Kennedy, Ms. Hines, and Mr. Harrelson.
“Woody, I love you, but I can’t be on your side politically, since a Kennedy candidacy could potentially give us Trump again!” read another reply comment. “Politics sucks [expletive] these days, but I’m just biting my tongue and voting Biden again, as it’s the only viable way of moving our democracy forward. I really wish we had another Obama this time around, but it is what it is.”
Another reply comment read, “My enthusiasm is curbed,” in an apparent reference to Ms. Hines’s show.
One commenter wrote, “RFK Jr has lost his mind. I used to follow his environmental law work back in the day. He is just a anti-vax/anti-science nutcase. Might as well be supporting MAGA.”
Harrelson and Kennedy Criticized for Vaccines Stances
Mr. Harrelson and Mr. Kennedy have both been critical of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout.
While hosting “Saturday Night Live” in February, Mr. Harrelson appeared to mock COVID-19 lockdowns and vaccine mandates, describing how he rejected a movie script as too unbelievable.
“The movie goes like this—the biggest drug cartels in the world get together and buy up all the media and all the politicians, and force all the people in the world to stay locked in their homes—and people only can come out if they take the cartels’ drugs and keep taking them over and over,” he said. “I threw the script away—I mean who’s going to believe that crazy idea.”
Following his monologue, some social media commentators criticized Mr. Harrelson’s comments, as well as SNL for hosting him.
While campaigning, Mr. Kennedy has been asked about his own views on vaccines, only for news outlets to cut away from his critical remarks on more than one occasion.
Mr. Kennedy’s vaccine stance has put him at odds with other members of his party. According to findings in an ongoing federal lawsuit in Louisiana, members of Mr. Biden’s White House staff contacted officials at Twitter, flagging comments Mr. Kennedy made about vaccines. One of Mr. Kennedy’s Twitter posts raised suspicion about how baseball hall-of-famer Hank Aaron died after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. A Biden White House official emailed Twitter officials about the post, writing, “Hey folks-Wanted to flag the below tweet and am wondering if we can get moving on the process of having it removed ASAP.”
Republicans on the House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government invited Mr. Kennedy to testify about the White House efforts to censor his posts, but Democrats on the panel fought
