Bradley Cooper faces backlash over alleged ‘Jewface’ in new film.
Bradley Cooper Faces Backlash for Alleged ‘Jewface’ in Upcoming Movie
The 48-year-old star of the highly anticipated film “Maestro,” Bradley Cooper, is finding himself in hot water as he receives widespread criticism for his portrayal of the renowned composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein.
Cooper, who co-wrote, produced, and directed the movie, has created a biographical romance that delves into Bernstein’s career and his 25-year marriage to Felicia Montealegre.
However, netizens were quick to point out Cooper’s use of a prosthetic nose, which some believe was an attempt to make him look more Jewish.
Hollywood cast Bradley Cooper – a non Jew – to play Jewish legend Leonard Bernstein and stuck a disgusting exaggerated “Jew nose” on him.
All while saying no to Jake Gyllenhaal, an actually Jewish man, who has dreamt of playing Bernstein for decades.

Ben J. Freeman, a columnist at The Jerusalem Post, also accused Cooper of “erasing” Jews and compared it to the offensive act of blackface or racializing other minorities.
Bradley Cooper should not be playing Leonard Bernstein. He should not be wearing a prosthetic nose.
This is Jew-face & is as serous & offensive as Black-face or the racialising of other minorities.
Stop erasing Jews. Stop erasing Jew-hate. Jews do count.

However, not all Jewish commentators share the same sentiment. Howard Feldman dismissed the controversy as “absolute rubbish.”
This Bradley Cooper #jewface hysteria is absolute rubbish.
It’s manufactured outrage.
Don’t get caught up in it.
(Does that make a bad Jew, or one that is happy with his Jewish nose?)https://t.co/IbOnOM0vYA— Howard Feldman (@HowardFeldman) August 16, 2023
The controversy even led to the term “Jewface” trending on social media, with criticism directed at Elon Musk for allowing it to happen.

Despite the backlash, Bernstein’s family has come to Cooper’s defense, stating that they are perfectly fine with his portrayal and believe their father would have been as well.
“Maestro” is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September and will be released in theaters on November 22. It will also be available for streaming on Netflix starting December 20.
