Sunny Hostin slammed after calling criticism of California wildfire problems ‘racist’

The View co-host Sunny Hostin slammed a fellow television host for commentary that blamed the mismanagement of the Los Angeles wildfires on “woke politics and DEI.”

“In terms of politicizing this fire, that’s what I have been most disgusted by,” Hostin said Monday.

She turned her criticism to Fox News host Jesse Watters.

“This is what he said … he blamed L.A. fires on diversity. He blamed them on California’s woke—” Hostin said as one of her co-hosts interjected with a quip.

“Maybe because one burn was burning bright and one was darker? Is that the kind of diversity he’s talking about?” Whoopi Goldberg joked.

“It was unbelievable. I thought [his comments were] fake news,” Hostin responded. “He said that California’s ‘woke politics and DEI’ are the reasons for the fires because Newsom has been tearing down dams because [of] Native Americans — but called them ‘Indians’ … wanting some of the river back so they can catch salmon.”

“This is stolen land, first of all, OK? California is stolen land,” Hostin said in reaction to Watters’s comments. “Second of all, that’s part of what always happens. These dams — there’s preservation of the dams. So that was just complete, not only misinformation, but it was racist.”

Watters addressed Hostin’s criticism Monday night on his show.

“DEI didn’t cause the fire but it distracted the state from preparing to fight it,” the Fox News host responded to Hostin.

Watters went on to share the example of Janisse Quiñones, the CEO and chief engineer of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, who bragged in a recent interview about how “social equity” was her No. 1 priority in her job.

“It’s about priorities. The water chief was focused on DEI,” he stated.

Watters continued to give examples of how the leadership’s priorities were mismanaged on a local and state level and failed Los Angeles residents through wrong priorities.
