Two journalists were caught on a “hot mic” joking about the assassination of former President Donald J. Trump.
On Tuesday, a video went viral on social media, revealing two unidentified male journalists making disturbing jokes about Trump’s potential assassination as they waited for him outside the federal courthouse in Washington, D.C.
The journalists expressed frustration about their inability to get a clear view of the 77-year-old Republican 2024 front-runner, who was inside the E. Barrett Prettyman U.S. Courthouse.
“You know what the worst part is? Even if he has his window open and he’s hanging out of it, he will be on the other side of the street,” one person could be heard saying on the live feed from the Associated Press.
“I mean, if he’s driving, we’ve got a good shot,” the second journalist said, to which the first replied: “Yeah, if he’s driving with the front window open.”
As the conversation between the two men continued, they started making jokes about Trump arriving in an open-top vehicle, similar to the one President John F. Kennedy was in when he was assassinated in 1963.
“Yeah, or if it’s a convertible,” the second person said.
“Yeah, I wasn’t thinking about that,” replied the first.
“Yeah, like if he just pulls up —” the second started to say before the first interjected and asked: “Like JFK?”
“Maybe someone, just like they told JFK, ‘You know what you should do? You should take a convertible! It’s so nice out,’” the press worker continued, receiving laughter from the other journalist.
The footage also shows police officers standing just a few feet away from the journalists, but it is unclear whether they had heard their remarks.

What steps should media organizations take to address and prevent incidents of unethical behavior among their employees
Title: Journalists Caught Making Disturbing Jokes about the Assassination of Former President Trump
Introduction
In a disturbing incident that showcases the lack of professionalism and ethical conduct among some members of the media, two unidentified journalists were caught on a hot mic joking about the potential assassination of former President Donald J. Trump. The incident took place outside the federal courthouse in Washington, D.C., where the former president was attending a hearing related to the 2020 election case. These shocking remarks not only demonstrate a complete disregard for journalistic integrity but also raise concerns about the safety and security of public figures. Such behavior is highly inappropriate and should be condemned in the strongest possible terms.
The Incident
The incident went viral on social media as a video captured two male journalists making troubling comments while waiting for President Trump outside the courthouse. Expressing frustration over not having a clear view of the former president, one journalist was captured saying, “You know what the worst part is? Even if he has his window open and he’s hanging out of it, he will be on the other side of the street.” This callous disregard for human life and the disturbing exchange continued as they started making jokes about Trump arriving in an open-top vehicle, reminiscent of the one President John F. Kennedy was in when he was assassinated in 1963.
Consequences and Implications
It is deeply concerning to witness such comments from individuals who are entrusted with the responsibility of reporting news and upholding journalistic values. Such language and behavior are not only unprofessional but also potentially dangerous as it can inspire or incite violence. Journalists have a duty to provide accurate and unbiased information to the public, and should under no circumstances engage in disrespectful or harmful discussions about public figures, let alone make jokes about their potential harm.
In an era where political polarization and hostility are already prevalent, these journalists’ comments feed into an already divisive environment. They undermine the credibility of the media profession as a whole and foster a sense of distrust among the public. It is essential that media organizations take immediate action to address this issue, ensuring that their employees understand the gravity and consequences of such behavior.
Conclusion
The incident involving the two journalists making disturbing jokes about the potential assassination of former President Donald J. Trump is a stark reminder of the importance of ethical journalism. Journalists have a crucial role in shaping public opinion and must maintain the highest standards of professionalism and integrity. Any breach of these standards not only damages the reputation of the individual journalists involved but also tarnishes the reputation of the entire media industry. It is imperative for media organizations to establish and enforce strict codes of conduct to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. The incident serves as a call for the media community to reflect on its responsibilities and to recommit to the principles of accuracy, fairness, and respect while reporting on public figures.
